I don't really think it's directed at any trackmania community in particular.
Remember that Nadeo was aquired by Ubisoft, and what Ubisoft want the most, is alot of players buying their games...e.g. profit. Realistically, TM2 won't be much of a success if the active TMUF community were the only buyers. I doubt there are enough people in the TMUF community for that.
Ubisoft are more likely to try to get people who havn't even heard of trackmania to buy TM2.
Namely, FPS players on the PC, who are looking for a new type of game to play. At the moment, there is a gap in the market for racing games on the PC that trackmania solely occupies and I think Ubisoft aims to take advantage of this gap...therefore "buying" trackmania.

Now to my point of view: I'm a TMNF player and i played about 2 or 3 months in a TMUF team, called F4A, don't think that you know them, but that's not important here.
I just wanted to say that the TMUF-Community is very different from the TMNF-Community, they don't like Stadium so much, it's just like they think Stadium shouldn't belong to United, because it's so much different to the other environments and it's nothing special because it's free for all.
But that's the point where I, as a TMNF Player see the difference... Stadium is the only Environment which could connect those "two worlds" of trackmania, and that's what TM2 doesn't have. Well, as we can see in the video, there are some Stadium elements in this new environment called "Valley" but thats not enough at all...
I'm gonna buy this game, because I just wanted to know how it is, maybe it's a new great game (i hope so^^) but also it could fail...
I think, so much players as TMNF(i think about 5 million players) TM2 won't get. Because, as Frostbeule wrote below, it's more directed to TMUF...
Hope there will be a new edition(or just update) of TMNF, just an improved Stadium environment, without those tons of bugs :D

frostbeule: actually nations forever is included in tmuf (it's only one of the 7 environments) so technically they're not different games, except that you can play that full environment for free

TMUF and TMNF are 2 complete different games. I think TM2 is directed more to the people that enjoyed TMUF. hopefully TMNF will keep being the free e-sport game that it is now, so it gets a chance to build up a really nice community - which is what it's heading at.
